The view of the Iowa Capitol from Cafe Baratta's patio, located in the State Historical Building. (Photo courtesy of Cafe Baratta's) Sunshine and Short Sleeves — It's Patio SeasonTrying to find a place to dine and bask in the warm weather this weekend? Restaurants in and around downtown have patios ideal for sunny Saturday afternoons. Here are some of our favorites:
The Republic on Grand: Located on the sixth floor of the AC Hotel, this is a fine place to enjoy alfresco drinks. Spacious terraces offer fresh air, a buzzy crowd and views of the East Village and downtown. We love the way the top-floor spot, high above the street, feels like an in-crowd hideaway in the center of everything.
Cafe Baratta's: Offering a picturesque view of the Capitol, Cafe
Baratta's, on the third floor of the State Historical Building, is a lunch-only spot with a stone-surfaced patio seating up to 50 people. It's open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, but closed on Sunday.
Eatery A: This polished casual restaurant features a raised patio overlooking the hustle and bustle of Ingersoll Avenue. The menu makes it all the better, with offerings like tender gnocchi with Grana Padano cheese, tomato pan sauce and a cured egg yolk — priced under $20.
Centro: Already one of Des Moines' favorite dining spots, Centro's patio encapsulates what it means to wine and dine alfresco. Sit along
the 10th Street sidewalk, enjoy Italian cuisine and decor, and watch the city pass by.
