GREAT WEEKENDS BEGIN HERE

Wine and Dine Before This Weekend's Show

The Des Moines Civic Center is hosting the Broadway musical "Hello, Dolly!" this weekend (more on that below), so if you plan to catch the show, here are some places for dinner within walking distance—ranging from upscale to casual.

Splash Seafood and Bar is not only right across the street from the Civic Center, it also endures as one of the top seafood restaurants in Des Moines, with a menu that includes Chilean sea bass meunière, Sriracha scallops and miso salmon.
On Court Avenue, one block south of the Civic Center, RōCA crosses hearty foods with refined touches in its menu of shared and large plates. Take advantage of the finely tuned craft cocktails as well.

On Walnut Street across from Capital Square, Wasabi Tao serves sushi in an urban-cool setting. The signature sushi rolls, like the Temptation Roll (spicy kani, mango and lettuce topped with spicy Parmesan baked scallop, tobiko, scallion, crunch, unagi sauce and spicy mayo), are a hit.

For casual dining, Court Avenue Restaurant and Brewing Co. on Court Avenue serves up burgers, pizzas, chops and other brew-pub favorites, and the menu at Fong's Pizza on Fourth Street specializes in China-meets-Italy takes on pizza, such as crab Rangoon.
