An Early Taste of St. Patrick's Day

While St. Patrick's Day falls on Tuesday, one of Greater Des Moines' newest Irish-themed restaurants and bars is celebrating a few days early. Magee's Irish Pub and Eatery, located in Ankeny's Prairie Trail District, is hosting a St. Paddy Weekend event at 5 p.m. tomorrow. Fiddler Kathryn Severing Fox and guitarist Seth Hedquist kick off the tunes in a heated tent. Des Moines-based band Local Fret will cap off the night.

Magee's has earned rave reviews since opening in December. The menu is half authentic (e.g., bangers and mash, garlic salmon) and half American favorites with an Irish twist, such as the Irish Hangover Burger, served on a pretzel bun with Irish cheddar cheese and a fried egg. Of course, there are plenty of Irish-inspired beers and spirits readily available.
