Sample Des Moines' Finest Food and Drink

The Wine, Food and Beer Showcase, Des Moines Metro Opera's biggest annual fundraiser, is back from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. More than 40 area restaurants, caterers, wineries, breweries and distilleries will be on hand for endless sampling. You also can take part in a silent auction and raffle. Lists of vendors plus items for the raffle and auction are available here. Tickets are $50 in advance; $60 at the door.

For a more intimate setting, DMMO is offering its Reserve Experience, giving guests access to fine wines from members of the Wine Club. Wine is paired with high-end culinary creations from some top Des Moines eateries: Dore Bakery, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, and Table 128 Bistro + Bar. Tickets for the Reserve Experience are $150.

'Monochrome'

A new exhibition at Olson-Larsen Galleries  features minimalist artwork created with few colors. "Monochrome" will showcase artists Debra Smith (artwork pictured), Yun Shin, Randy Richmond and Michael Johnson, as well as other monochrome pieces from its inventory. High school state tournament season is here, starting with the wrestling tournament, which began Wednesday and continues today at Wells Fargo Arena. The event culminates with the championships tomorrow. Tickets are $10.

Wild Widow Poker

Grand View Theatre presents the debut of "Wild Widow Poker," a play written by Grand View University's A'ndrea Wilson and directed by Tiffany Johnson. It tells the story of four Northern black women who watch from afar as race relations come to a head in the South, forcing them to make a decision.
