New Downtown Spots To Try

We're always up for new places to eat and drink, and there are a couple of recent openings on our list:

Zora (2120 Ingersoll Ave.): This multi-level bar has both a casual restaurant feel and rooftop space ideal for nightlife. The menu has appetizers, pizza, entrees, salads and more. Try the VIP Burger, with a half-pound of wagu beef, bacon relish, Vermont cheddar cheese and arugula. There are several cocktail options, including Botanical Spritz, served in a wine glass with soda water and a choice between two Ketel One Botanical flavors: cucumber mint or grapefruit rose.

Secret Admirer (110 S.W. 5th St.): Located in a historic 1900 boiler house building, this spot has a quaint and airy indoor bar with a patio facing the Des Moines skyline. The menu is made up of cocktails, beers, wine and seltzers. A big draw is the Sno Cone (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), which are served with rotating flavors.
