Dessert and Culture at Virtual Event

The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is serving up sweet treats with "Champagne and Chocolate ALIVE" from 6 to 7:30 tonight. The virtual program aims to celebrate the diversity of plants as well as people. Featured performances include Asian fusion-style dances from the Allionce Lion Dance Team, spoken word hip-hop from Emmett Phillips, and classical Indian choreography from Pragnya Yogesh.

Now for the tasty: VIP tickets include a holiday box packed with sparkling wine, chocolate for two, an amaryllis bulb plant, and tickets to visit the garden at a later date. VIP packages are available for home delivery or pickup until 5 p.m. today.

Tickets are $50 for virtual event access or $125 for event access and the holiday box. All proceeds support  programming at the Botanical Garden. Learn more

Winter Farmers Market

Cold weather doesn’t mean the end of outdoor shopping. The Drive-Through Winter Farmers and Makers Market, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. tomorrow at Principal Park's parking lot, lets you shop  from the safety of your car. Order your goods in advance for pickup. Learn more

Christkindlmarket Curbside

Christkindlmarket returns this year as a curbside pickup event. The new online marketplace is open until Nov. 22, selling home decor, baked goods and more from local vendors. You'll pick up your items on Dec. 3-6 at Principal Park. Learn more here and read our story about the holiday event here.


East Village Holiday Promenade

The Holiday Promenade returns for its 19th year from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Historic East Village. The festivities are ongoing for the next five Sundays and Wednesdays, equaling 12 days of holiday cheer. Enjoy lights, ice skating and more. Learn more

The Blake Shaw Quintet

The Blake Shaw Quintet takes the stage at Noce at 8 p.m. tomorrow. The Iowa City-based jazz ensemble is led by Blake Shaw, an upright bassist, composer and educator. Tickets are $30 for one or $40 for two at the bar. Learn more

The Brenton Skating Plaza reopens at 3:30 p.m. today in the East Village. Tickets are $10 per adult and $6.50 per child. Advanced registration is required, with capacity limited to 99 skaters.
