Oktoberfest Helps Ring In the Fall Season

Yes, it's officially fall. But before the leaves turn shades of orange and cold temperatures last beyond the early morning hours, Des Moines' Oktoberfest is here to bring in the new season with good fun.

The Tapping of the Golden Keg at 3 p.m. today marks the beginning of the festival, which runs until 1 a.m. tonight and continues at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Court Avenue district. German-inspired games, like Bobbing for Apfel, Hammerschlagen and Stein Pong, will dot the Party Plaza. Food, live music, polka dancing lessons and, of course, plenty of craft beer will be available as well.

Tickets are $7 for single-day admission or $12 for two days, if bought in advance. The price increases to $10 if bought at the entrance.
