Veggie Thumper To Host Annual Fall Harvest

Veggie Thumper, a local vegan food truck, will host its fourth annual Fall Harvest event at 2 p.m. Sunday at Franklin Junior High School on the north side of Des Moines. The event will feature a fall-inspired vegan soul food menu. Included are fried green tomatoes, red beans and rice, collard greens, and cornbread, with sweet potato pie and maple bourbon pecan pie for dessert.

Veggie Thumper encourages customers to mask up and bring their own chairs for the socially distant outdoor event. Learn more

Taste of the Fair: Fall Edition

Let's do one more weekend, for good measure. Taste of the Fair: Fall Edition will wrap up with a final few days at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The event, which aims to fill the void left by the canceled Iowa State Fair, started in August and was brought back in late September. About 20 vendors will serve fair-style foods today through Sunday. Learn more
Vintage Clothing Market

The Heartland Bazaar vintage clothing market opens at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Rumors Vintage. The outdoor shop will feature multiple vendors selling items such as clothing, vinyl and decor. Local food trucks and DJs will accompany the vendors.

'Weekend Comedy'

The Des Moines Community Playhouse production "Weekend Comedy" opens tonight at 7:30. and will run Thursday-Sunday every other week until Nov. 8 in the Playhouse's John Viars Theatre. Opening night will be livestreamed, but remaining show dates will be performed in person. Learn more

Waterbury Art Walk

The semiannual Waterbury Art Walk returns to the Waterbury Neighborhood at 11 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday. The walkable art fair is organized by local artists, including Rachel Tone and Robert Schulte, who live in the neighborhood. The outdoor fair will be socially distanced. Learn more

Black Stories

The new "Black Stories" exhibit continues this weekend at the Des Moines Art Center. Local Black artists Mitchell Squire and Jordan Weber co-curated the exhibition, which showcases works by Black artists. Read more about the exhibit in our recent story in dsm.

The Nadas

The Nadas will perform an outdoor drive-in concert at 6 p.m. today at Water Works Park. The performance is the latest installment of the Revive the Live concert series, a drive-in event allowing live, outdoor performances in a socially distanced fashion.

Composer and pianist Nate Sparks will take the stage at 8 p.m. today at Noce. Sparks will perform songs from jazz pianist icon Bill Evan’s live performance at the Village Vanguard, a jazz club in New York City. Learn more.
