Enjoy a Day of Music at Riverview Park

The Riverview Music Festival—put on by the Des Moines Music Coalition at the new Riverview Park on the north side of town—will take place from noon to 10:30 p.m. tomorrow. The lineup, split between two stages, features several Black national musicians alongside local and regional talent.

A few of the headliners are Earthgang (9:30 p.m., Riviera Stage), an Atlanta-based hip-hop duo;  Andre Davis (7:45 p.m., Riviera Stage), a spoken word artist in Des Moines; and VanJess (8:45 p.m., xBk Stage), a Nigerian-American R&B duo. Admission is $40. Find the full lineup here.

'Aretha: A Tribute'

At 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, the Des Moines Symphony will present “Aretha: A Tribute” for its free Pops Series at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park. Broadway star Capathia Jenkins (pictured) and Grammy Award nominee Ryan Shaw will perform songs from the legendary vocalist's long list of hits. Learn more.
Taste of the Junction

Enjoy storytellers, cultural food trucks, arts and crafts, and live entertainment at Taste of the Junction at 5-8 p.m. today at Valley Junction in West Des Moines. The headlining act will be the Tony Valdez Large Band, a local jazz group. Admission is free. Learn more.
'A John Williams Celebration'

Another installment in the Pops Series, the Des Moines Symphony will perform works from “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones” and other film favorites by composer John Williams at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park. Admission is free.

First Friday at Mainframe

Mainframe Studios will host is monthly First Friday event at 5-8 p.m. today. Featured will be special exhibitions highlighting nature and the outdoors. Tangerine Food Co. will serve food and DJ Xan will provide the tunes. The event is free and open to the public. Learn more.

'Squonk'

This show mixes music, a multi-tiered stage and giant hands moving in sync with the sound. There will be multiple performances throughout the weekend at Cowles Commons.

Train Tours


The Science Center of Iowa will host tours of a steam engine train at multiple times on Sunday. Tours include a 50-minute ride, starting at the railroad on Fourth Street. Tickets are $12. Learn more.
